This is not really an article - it is one of my short stories.  But the cataloguing software sees it as an 'article'.  The Irish Studies Review team published this story in 1994, when they were still unsure about the direction and focus of the journal.  Later, of course, Irish Studies Review became a standard academic journal.   an interesting oddity, a piece of fictio

This story was told to me by a fiddle player I worked with.  The three fiddles in my story are precisely those 

The late Bridget O'Toole Walsh wondered if this story connected with the 'Deal with the Devil' motif in literature and folklore.  She was thinking of  the Charlie Daniels Band song 'The Devil went down to Georgia'.
